Cloudflare named Empress in the EmDash 1.0 launch
On September 28, Cloudflare released EmDash 1.0 and named Empress in its launch post as the platform for running many EmDash sites as one.
On September 28, 2026, Cloudflare released EmDash 1.0 , the stable version of its open-source CMS. In the post's section on the growing ecosystem, Cloudflare named Empress as the platform for multi-brand organizations: one place to run a fleet of EmDash sites, in natural language or in a conventional admin.
Empress's delightful multisite experience would not be possible without the foundations EmDash has laid: sites that are fast, safe to extend, and easy for people and agents to read and act on. EmDash unlocks powerful control over a website, and Empress builds on it to give you complete control over as many sites as you want. We're excited to be part of this journey.

Why we build on EmDash
EmDash gives every site three things we would otherwise have to build for each one.
- Plugins that cannot hurt the site. Each plugin runs in its own sandbox with only the access an administrator grants it.
- Sites that agents can work in. Developers work in Astro, editors in the admin, and agents through the API, the CLI and an MCP server.
- Speed by default. Sites run on Cloudflare's network, close to every reader.
What Empress adds
EmDash makes one site excellent. Empress is for when you run many and want to work across them as one.
- Intent across a fleet. Say "move all eight brands to the new colours and type, and put the spring menu on each homepage" and Empress carries it across every site's content and theme, staged for you to see before it goes live.
- Theme changes without code. Anyone on your team can change how a site looks; every change is checked as it goes live and undoes in one step.
- A connector for any agent. Claude, or any MCP client, can read, query and act across your sites with the same controls your team has.
